Well, maybe the SBC doing this is too broad a brush. Robert Jeffress and Jack Graham specifically. Oh, and Jerry Falwell Jr. Looks like in the Baptist world they want to build around the orange headed buffoon, women can pastor churches, are not disqualified from ministry for having affairs and the prosperity gospel has replaced the Biblical one. I've been checking to see if Paula White is getting invitations to speak at Prestonwood or Dallas First Baptist. Poor Beth Moore. She sticks with the Bible in her teaching and has been faithful in her marriage but gets blasted because she accepted an invitation to preach a Mother's Day sermon in a church. Southern Baptist leaders are still frumping about her, but their double standard doesn't apply to the buffoon's "spiritual advisor."

And they wonder why their attendance, membership and money are vanishing.

Meanwhile, unlike Jerry Vines and William Thornton I am reading John Barton's History of the Bible, which without polemics, no nice way to say this, makes a fool of John McCarthur not to mention the fundamentalist takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Then again the second or was it the third day of the Ridgecrest Conference on Inerrancy did that thirty years ago and here we are today.

Oh well, maybe I can get David Rogers to read Barton.

Jeffress is the pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas and he's, what, their third since W. A. Criswell. But he's not careful enough to make sure of the theology of someone whose book he endorses without actually reading all of it? And how is it that he can endorse her book when, by his own stated position, she occupies an office that the Bible explicitly limits to men? So I have to conclude, he's either the most careless pastor in all of the SBC, or he has abandoned belief that the pastorate is limited to men and that women should "keep silent in the church", and has accepted the prosperity gospel hook, line and sinker. Or he's just flat out stupid. Take your pick.

Any word on how the vote went, how many yeas, how many nays, that sort of thing? Any messengers try to get any amendments, pertinent or otherwise, attached?

It is amusing that those two would choose that reason to absent themselves.
