Gosh, Bette Stalnecker is still alive... and obviously well

Bumping this old topic once more. I thought David's old roommate & others who remember the Stalneckers & Tysons from "back in the day" might appreciate the update.

In the summer of 2014 David & Carol Tyson realized a long-time dream when they moved from California to Spring Hill, TN (in David's words, "God's country") along with two of their daughters. David had been in poor health for over 15 years and spent about half his time in TN in Vanderbilt Hospital after the move. He remained upbeat and optimistic, but his earthly body finally gave out on December 8, 2015. A "Homegoing Service" was held near Nashville on December 14, 2015. This was the entire service, filmed & edited by daughter, Traci.

Here are some clips (please excuse the quality) from David's "last concert on earth," an informal jam session on May 1, 2015 with Bette Stalnecker Gibson & Carol. David said he had not played the piano in 17 years! You never would have known it. It came back to him just like it was yesterday.

Ed: Hauro, are you sure those Russians are not some of the Russians Choir and Baptist dignitaries who Took Part in the ABC International Ministries anniversary celebration for which we brought all the missionaries home to participate, a few years ago? 2014 I believe. They had a large place in the events closing program at Green Lake.

There are certainly plenty of Baptists in Russia (and some of the other former SSRs, but I am stepping out in faith and assuming that they don't have names like EZ Payday Loans or Charlesbfp, nor do they tend to use Dutch ISPs.

I can tell her, but she primarily sticks with Facebook. She retained the Stalnecker name when she remarried and just added "Gibson" (with no hyphen). Today she often just goes by "Bette Gibson" which took me a long time to get used to. Hey, I'm a woman, if it matters. Not exactly "young blood" unless "young" is a relative term. I bet many of you are at least old enough to remember Roy Rogers & Dale Evans. Unfortunately, it seems nobody under about 50 today has, so I need to come up with a new example when I'm referred to as "he."

This is a clip from her 2003 wedding to Jim Gibson. Adrian Rogers officiated. Several people mentioned Rick (Ric) and Loren/"Chip" (Lauren). They "gave her away" here. Ric is the taller of the two (on Bette's left).

Well, this is an even older topic now, but if anyone is still around who remembers Bette Stalnecker (now Bette Stalnecker Gibson), here is her coronavirus version of "Side by Side."

At 90 years young, she's very active on Facebook and posts frequent "selfie" videos. Ric and Lauren show up there occasionally if anyone wants to see Rick and Loren/"Chip" today.

Ed: Thanks again Dale, for bringing Bette up again. My memories go way back to the 60s when they and Tysons traveled in 3 Air Stream travel trailers, Mom and dad towing with a Caddy, the Tysons with a Mercury Station wagon (David needed it for his instruments) and the boys pulled their Bambi with a Mercedes convertible. My oldest two had a great day when we took Rick and Chip. to the Indy Time Trials. Bette will always be among my favorite Christian vocalist.

Those are great memories. I forgot to mention I stay in touch with Carol Tyson, too. She's on Facebook, too, but her privacy settings are tighter than Bette's.

I posted Bette's video on FB.

Several years ago, the same time I found this topic, there was another called, if I'm not mistaken, "Big Hair for Jesus" or something similar in which there was a discussion about Bette donning a silver "space suit" and singing (was it "I'll Rise Again"?) while the smoke from a fog machine rose around her. It sounded like something she'd do (!), and if anyone could pull it off, it would be Bette, but in the '60s this wasn't exactly accepted practice.

Does anyone know if that topic still exists somewhere in here?
