Here's visual proof that I'm still a Baptist, albeit no longer a Southern Baptist. Here's a small photo album of an outdoor baptistery near the tabernacle of the Oklahoma American Indian Baptist Associational campground near Anadarko, Oklahoma.
While visiting with some of the old timers, I learned that it was common practice for American Indian Baptist churches (ABC-USA, formerly the old Northern Baptist Convention) to hold their baptisms until the annual summer camp. None of the churches had baptisteries in their facilities. So when associational camp was held each year in mid-June, the churches would bring their candidcates and have a communal baptism service. As near as I can discover, the baptistry was constructed back in the 30's. Now days, the OIABA churches conduct baptismal services in local churches or in nearby rivers and streams... Neat, eh?...
I’d love to conduct a baptism in that baptistery. However, we have a nice baptistery in our facility.
