A church that is being "the church" is going to encounter people who are emotionally and mentally unstable or who, because of life circumstances, have built up anger and frustration or depression. And of course, on any given Sunday, you never know what's going on with anyone who is sitting there. If a gun is something that is easy to get, even with a prior criminal record or mental illness history then a tragedy is inevitable. Having an armed church security team isn't the only solution to the problem. Putting the common sense laws that the NRA has incorrectly labelled a violation of the second amendment in place and enforcing them will help. Bottom line, if this guy couldn't have purchased a weapon, there'd have been no church shooting. Any of the laws being proposed would have stopped him, including his having a prior criminal record with use of a weapon, the mental instability problem and a responsibility clause. Until Texas starts enforcing even its minimal laws at the point of sale of guns, it will continue to be the scene of church shootings.
