I meant to check with 'the Missus' to see if you have room for the one I'm sending. Don't want you to have to get a bigger place.

What a hymnal library!

Of course there's room for another hymnal. We haven't filled up the attic yet. There's only Encyclopaedea Britannica and a 1972 World Book up there so far, and a suitcase with a broken wheel. If Haruo can tolerate my stable of vintage Singer Sewing machines, I can step over stacks of his joy and delight.

tĥ honey!

"tĥ honey"... I have my computer equipped with a little program called "tajpi.exe" that allows me to type the supersigned Esperanto letters by typing the hatless letter followed by "x". Usually this works well, because the sequences "cx, gx, hx, jx, sx and ux" are quite rare in English whereas "ĉ ĝ ĥ ĵ ŝ ŭ" are quite common in Esperanto, but occasionally it results in a little "faŭ pas" like the texting spelling "tĥ" when I meant to say "thx". It's more of a problem when I type in French or Latin (including English jurisprudential terms like "et ŭ.") because "ux" is quite common in those languages. (With Tajpi, to get the x to appear after one of those letters you have to hit it twice, i.e. type "thxx" to produce "thx" etc. It's a great boon to those of us who use a lot more Esperanto than we do French or Latin, but for everybody else I'd say this is a utility their computer can do without.

...am saving some really impressive hymnals for special occasions.

And along with his hymnal collection, I seem to attract interesting old cookbooks. One that goes with the 1956 hymnal that came today is "Meals from the Manse COOK BOOK- Favorite Recipes from the Wives of Great Preachers with Devotional Gems for Homemakers by Lora Lee Parrott. published in 1950. None of the wives get credit for recipes by their own name, it is always "Mrs. J. Vernon McGee or Mrs. First Mate Bob (ding ding, I've anchored my soul, in the Haven of Rest....)
I can see how this cookbook could save the day for some poor inexperienced preacher's wife who is expected to have dinner on the table for her Rev. and some visiting dignitary on short notice or plan dinner for 50 at the church social hall and actually look like she Knows What She Is Doing. Makes me want to plan authentic retro Light Refreshments for a hymn sing with Authentic Church Hats. Come on guys, ditch the ball caps and find some fedoras!

Wow! Aside from the fact that you don't have much that's not in English, your collection is comparable in many ways to mine, and significantly stronger in some sectors. I do not run into such often.

Those are fantastic collections. I have a book collection that has several hymnals, but nothing to that extent.

My pride and joy, however, is the Song and Service Book for Ship and Field,with a 1941 copyright, stamped on the front USS ARIZONA BB-39. I found it among my Dad's possessions after he passed away.

My most recent acquisitions have been Primitive Baptist shapenote hymnals, three of them, one of which is sometimes used in singings by Seattle shapenote folks. A 4th edition Goble, Daily, and the brand-new "Old-Line Primitive Baptist Hymn and Tune Book" by Jason Fruit.
