Things will be changing (I hope)

From my UAH Professor of Rhetoric friend

From a caring, thoughtful, and brilliant political mind, who speaks my thoughts and those of millions who supported Biden/Harris:
To my conservative friends:
I am told you’re as scared now as my immigrant, Black, Muslim. LGBTQ, disabled, Native, and otherwise marginalized fellow citizens were four years ago, and that I should reassure you.

So here goes:
-We can agree, I think, that it’s past time for infrastructure week.
-It’s likely (alas) that no one is coming for your guns.
-No has has any interest at all in coming for your religion.
-If you oppose abortion, no one will make you have one.
-If you are against gay marriage, I promise you no one will force you to have one of those either.
-But your policies that separate families and incarcerate children? I’m coming for those.
-Your taxes that impose a burden on the poor and let the rich off the hook? Put that on my list.
-Underfunding education, especially in poorer districts? Add that too.
-The carceral state? Yeah. Change coming there. And to the whole structure of policing in this country.
-Oh yeah, and I’m a big fan of national parks, the environment and life on earth. So expect climate policy based on science, which means you can stop drilling on public lands in search of fossil fuels.
-Yes, I’d like to see investment in green energy to provide jobs. You betchya.
-Your fear of masks and social distancing? Get over it. I value your life as well as the lives of others. I’d like to see my students, family, and friends in person. I need you to stop seeing this as partisan. Grow the eff up.
-Immigration policies that target specific regions and religions? Yup. I want to change those.
-Your racism, misogyny, hatred and fear of **** near everyone? I can’t change your heart. But you bet I want to change your policies.

I hope that reassured you. You say you value country and national values. Let’s see you extend that to people who aren’t exactly like you.

I swear to you that I will defend your rights with all I have in me. It’s just that I will extend the same passion in my defense of the rights of others too.

There’s work to do. Gear up.

I second all that he said. It's time to stop demonizing those who may disagree with us, regardless of which side we and they are on.
