The reason for "limited warfare," or whatever you would call the indirect skirmishes between the US and Iran taking place in Iraq is that a war that isn't "limited" requires congressional authorization. Personally, I believe that any military action, even a "police action", requires the authorization of Congress and that the constitution specifically prohibits the President from making a commitment of American military force. Notice from a twitter account does not satisfy the constitutional requirement.
Personally, I believe the Bible is pretty clear in its teaching that war is a consequence of fallen humanity. I don't believe there is any justification, under the new covenant, for a "just war." Politically, the only legitimate reason for the US to go to war is if we have been directly attacked. Being an unwanted and unwelcome occupying army in a foreign country is not justification for us to call skirmishes with a neighboring country an "attack", especially not to justify a war, nor does it justify committing an act of war, like taking out the other country's military commander. The US has only ever done that once before, when they shot down a plane carrying Japanese Admiral Yamamoto and that was in the middle of a declared war following their attack on Pearl Harbor.
I don't believe we should ever be involved in a "limited war" or police action since that seems to indicate that our reason for being there isn't defending the US from attack. Our presence in Iraq is due to a set of absolutely false pretenses and it was an aggressive action which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and the devastation of much of the country from the bombing and fighting we did, then opening the door to an insurgency which caused more fighting, bombing, and devastation of cities and towns that escaped from it the first time. The Iraqi Shi'ite government is allied to Iran, the Kurds in Iraq are safe, the Christians have all been displaced or murdered, it's time for us to go. Trump tried to create a sensation to distract from his impeachment, change the headlines and boost his sagging job approval ratings like he once claimed Obama was planning (but never did, another Trump lie). Didn't work.
