Voter Supression

Postby Joseph Patrick » Fri Aug 14, 2020 7:25 pm

From Gerry Milligan...While William T and I disagreed on how the former Secretary of State for Georgia suppressed the vote, thus becoming the governor; he cannot hold a candle to our president and postmaster general in voter suppression and mail-in ballots. A saying we often heard in Tahlequah, OK was, "As crooked as a dog's hind leg."

Mail in ballots, you say? Send me a couple thousand. I’ll see that they get returned.

If you have crooks running the system (or carefully selected portions of it) you can get wonderful ballot fraud out of a mail-in system. But that's true of whatever system you use. We've had practically none in Washington State over the years we've been doing it (though "mail-in only" is a misnomer, since many of us turn our ballots in in person at collection sites not beholden to Trump's PG, and there are even a couple of places you can go to do a ballot on site, mainly for voters who have serious access issues (blind etc.). Our Secretary of State (who's in charge of the elections department) is wholeheartedly in favor of the system, and she's a Republican. (Yes, Republicans can be elected to statewide office in Washington State.)

From Gerry Milligan ... In Georgia today prople were subjected to 11 or 12 hour wait to vote. The republican administration called this delay as being caused by voter enthusiasm; while NPR, ABC and CNN all labeled it as voter supression. While I think that the bone spurred superspreader needs to go, I cannot see myself waiting that long to oust the liar in chief. Given the two candidates running, how long would you wait in line to vote?

I have already returned my absentee ballot. The registrar in my county is a member of a church where I served as interim pastor, and I trust that she will uphold the sanctity of the ballot to the best of her ability. All the fraud cases I have seen in VA or NC seem to involve Republicans. My best story is a former church member who was checking on some family business at a NC county courthouse where his grandfather had lived (a small rural county). He found that his grandfather who had been dead for nine years had not missed a general election or a Republican primary.
