He was the Atlanta bureau chief for Newsweek in 65 and hired Baptist preacher's son Marshall Frady.

His son Doug and I became acquainted in 1989 and I was the "ticket" for Doug Observing the first gathering of Progressive Baptists at the Atlanta Inforum in 1990

Doug's sterling eulogy for his Father is at his blog Docs and Musings, easy google.

And here is something Joe wrote for the Georgia Magazine in 1972 about his Uncle's store in Augusta where he learned the value of enterprise, The Burum Company. You don't have to scroll down far for this jewel
