Jesse Karlsberg on John Leland and the Mammoth Cheese

Postby Haruo » Sun Jan 19, 2020 2:15 am

A couple of days ago, Jesse P. Karlsberg, a scholar in matters shapenote, posted a really fun account of John Leland's 1801 trip to DC with a 3/4-ton Cheshire Cheese to present to Thomas Jefferson. I hadn't realized before that this was an anti-slavery cheese gift. You'll have to go to Facebook to read it, but it's public there, so here, go read it.
