None of my family worships at Confederate shrines or whoops when bands play “Dixie.” But we are respectful of imperfect ancestors who believed differently, worked hard, swam in the Blue Hole, mined coal, and built rock houses and schools. There are no perfect places and no perfect people. And communities which would live in peace must first learn to respect separate memories.
