Talk of NE Regional meeting

Postby Ed Pettibone » Sat Jun 06, 2009 2:49 pm

Don Rasmussen, The interim Executive Minister for the Upstate NYS Region of ABC-USA announced yesterday at our Regional Board of Missions meeting, that next Friday, he will be in Philadelphia attending a planing session for a proposed North East Regional Celebration of the New Baptist Covenant to be held some time in 2010. Although Dr.Roy Medley the General Secretary of ABC-USA is convening this planing session, Rasmussen said Medley had emphasized that they want the regional meeting to be representative of the many Baptist groups and individuals found all across the Northeast an to not be dominated buy ABC.

I anticipate that groups not headquartered in this area will also bring in leaders from across the nation as well as those living and or working here.

NOTE: Regional in the above post refers to a large geographical area, not the boundaries of any particular Baptist entity.

ED: I could have added this to my original bur some times it takes a reply to prime the pump for more replies.

Bruce I wanted you to know I have submitted your name as a potential speaker for the Northeast Baptist Covenant celebration in 2010. I also submitted, William D. Underwood, Bill Leonard, Bruce Prescott and David Flick. They wanted non ABC types but I included Flick, for his ABC/CBF work with the Indian Population of OK., especially Bacone College which has a number of friends in NYS.

Ed, I am glad to hear a NE Baptist Covenant Celebration is in the works, and I would be quite pleased if either David Flick or I were given an opportunity to speak (and I personally would enjoy another visit to your region of the country). I would not be surprised if William Underwood attends regardless, and I image Bill Leonard is a hot commodity for the regional gatherings.

Is any particular city being discussed. If it is within 500 miles (of S.E. Virginia) , I might be able to attend.

Underwood, Leonard, and Prescott were worthy submissions. But I'm certainly not in their league. Not by any stretch of the imagination. In the Baptist world, I'm a complete unknown. The only people who know much of anything about me are those who frequent BaptistLife.Com. And relatively speaking, that's a very small number. Besides, I'm not a great public speaker. I can't speak my way out of a paper bag from the platform. You dont want me. And they wouldn't want me...

In Charlotte, February 2002, you spoke impromptu...unprepared....and brought the house down with the line, "Heck, when I was nine years old, I didn't even know what a virgin was!" One of the best speeches I heard that weekend. Still have the tape.
