Anyhow, she made it a focus of the Pastoral Prayer yesterday, and asked the secretary to put a blurb about it in the bulletin, but the secretary called it the "National Baptist Convention" to the pastor's chagrin and irritation. So we prayed for it.
I'm convinced that leading off with a list of Carter, Clinton and Gore as featured participants is enough to mislead and deter many who might otherwise be very supportive, and those so turned off are not all Republicans. We'd be better off I think listing the supporting organizations than the speakers, when selling the idea to the general Baptist public.

Ed: I will agree that the list should have been modified as time went on . But those three where the first to commit, along with Huckabee who latter withdrew. But for the masses, I guess the churchy types needed to have been promoted more. This is may have been one of those "mistakes" Parham noted some days ago. I think perhaps the planners expected the various groups to promote their own wthin their ranks. Sorry to hear that perhaps evergreen may have dropped the ball.
I spent some time during the service yesterday explaining to folk what we will be doing this week. Tony Campolo's friend and former college and seminary room mate Jim Meek, is riding down with us. He is going more because of Tony's urging than mine.

Another couple in the Minerva church are some what upset because they had already put down money for a trip to Spain when I began talking up this meeting. Another fellow said yesterday that that he had not realized the magnitude of this meeting until he heard Bill Moyers talking about it on Saturday evening. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up.
Another mistake was only promoting the high priced down town hotels and motels.
Few folk in the NYS region of ABC-USA could really afford those prices. And some of these folk are just plan intimidated by large cities. I am constantly amazed at folk here who have never been to NYC or those who have only been there once in 70 or more years.
Never the less I am looking forward to the experience and as I have said all along, getting to know more about various baptist groups than what little I already know is my priority.
