Just when you think you knew about everything there was to know about your roots, along comes a two by four across the noggin in a PBS American Experience doc on Marian Anderson the great black woman who sang My Country Tis of Thee on the Steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday in 1939 to 75,000 people.

Watch the doc, it is powerful.

Just three years later, her mentor, Roland Hayes was beaten after an incident at the Higgins Shoe Store on Broad Street in Rome Ga. By that time my Dad had lived there 14 years, in fact Billy Fox turned 20 in 1942.

I learn all this on same day as I read about Lindsey Graham the great Trump butt licker disenfranchising black votes.

Furman is holding a virtual conference on the Trump insurrection March 2 with Aaron Simmons, a native of Cleveland Tn, not far from where Roland Hayes once had a 600 acre farm in Calhoun.

In the mid 80s, I was in a doubles match with Dot Higgins, the grand daughter of the store owners. At the time she was number two girl for the UGA netters. My doubles partner was the daughter of a woman who lived in Canton Ga, and was the prom date for Jimmy Carter the President some time before that.
