Sarah Jackson Shelton retiring at BCOC B'ham

Postby Lamar Wadsworth » Thu Mar 14, 2019 8:14 pm

I just learned that Sarah Jackson Shelton has announced her retirement as pastor of Baptist Church of the Covenant in Birmingham. Easter Sunday will be her last time to preach there as pastor. We have family who are members there. I think Sarah was the second woman to serve as pastor of a Baptist church in Alabama. My delightful friend, the late Ruby Welsh Wilkins, who became pastor of Antioch Baptist Church near Wadley in 1971, was the first. BCOC is an amazing church. Sarah had a fruitful ministry there, can't remember how long she has been there, probably close to 20 years.

I have met her on a few occasions. She has been a very impressive minister.
