True Threat Assessment

Postby KeithE » Thu Jan 31, 2019 7:07 am

The Intel chiefs were united in their judgments given in the recently released Worldwide Threat Assessment. See attached for the facts in the WTA-2019. I’ll repeat just two conclusions - but if you have time read it all.

China and Russia are more aligned than at any point since the mid-1950s, and the relationship is likely to strengthen in the coming year as some of their interests and threat perceptions converge, particularly regarding perceived US unilateralism and interventionism and Western promotion of democratic values and human rights.

Our adversaries and strategic competitors probably already are looking to the 2020 US elections as an opportunity to advance their interests. More broadly, US adversaries and strategic competitors almost certainly will use online influence operations to try to weaken democratic institutions, undermine US alliances and partnerships, and shape policy outcomes in the United States and elsewhere
.

Much of this threat assessment is counter to Trump’s stated views like:
- North Korea is ending it’s nuclear-tipped missile development.
- Iran has broke out of the Iran’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) (aka the Iran Nuclear Deal).
- Russia did not interfere with the 2016 election
- ISIS has been defeated under Trump
- Our largest threat is from the Southern Border (may lead to a declared “National Emergency”).

No wonder that Trump intermediately disagreed and denigrated the Intel chiefs with a
series of tweets claiming they needed “education”.

Schumer has it right, it is the president that needs the education.

Trump is at best a know-nothing, learn-nothing mouthoff (if that be a word). At worse (and probably true) he is a stooge for Putin who is (1) attacking democracies worldwide and (2) coalescing power with China.

How did you manage to upload that downloadable PDF here, Keith?! I miss the days when we could have photos on here, but I never knew that we could do PDFs, let alone that we STILL could!

I’m up early this morning. Are you up very early or just being a night owl?

As for uploading files, at the bottom of the page when you are entering a new post/reply is a tab saying “upload attachment”. Click on that and then choose the file (somewhere on your computer), “add the file”, and provide a comment if you want to.

We can still have photos (if you copy it off the internet or place an image you have on your computer to Photobucket).

Now let’s get ya’ll’s comments on the state of the Intel's threat vs Trump’s “threats”.

Maybe the guy pictured above is teachable and not enthralled by Putin.

Could be that's why Senate Republicans are making an attempt to take back their constitutionally delegated power over any foreign relations. Though for politics sake they can't bring themselves to admit it, they are telling us through their actions that they see Trump as incompetent, inept, and incapable of making judgments based on facts.

Apparently they all told him that their public, live-broadcast testimony was "misconstrued ... out of context ... fake news". Those who believe him will believe him. Bizarre but true.
