Defining "Evangelical" Study by Lifeway

Some interesting things in this survey, some surprising, some not so surprising. The fact that a relatively high percentage of self-identified Evangelicals don't hold strongly to the core beliefs identified in the survey is surprising. The connection to the Republican party is not surprising, though the percentages are a lot lower than I thought they'd be.

For a group of people who are so insistent on doctrinal conformity as a major part of faith, the preaching and teaching doesn't seem to be making much of an impact.

Many United Methodists, especially those who merged with the Methodist Church from the Evangelical United Brethren, consider themselves "evangelicals." But do not fit into the current definition commonly used most often for the Evangelical movement. I think it could easily confuse a survey.
