Union is located in Schenectady 9.4 Miles from us, that is about a 17 to 20 min drive.

GO! Dutchmen :) :) :)

I don't know much about ice hockey but sounds like Union is among the best. Until I read the articles, I had no idea what the collegiate hockey "Final Four" was called. Very interesting... I took a Google Earth tour of the Union campus. Very nice! That Nott Memorial building is interesting. The video history of "The Nott" is really interesting.

I was also very impressed with the Saint John the Evangelist RC Church just off campus. (Google Earth gives a much better view of the building) Wow, they really built beautiful edifices back in the day...

Anyway, I'll join you in cheering for the Dutchmen as they head for the Frozen Four...

Ed: This evening Union held off Boston College in the first game of the Frozen four 5-4

Next test Saturday, against either North Dakota or Minnesota.

Right now that game (M vs ND) at the start of the 2nd period is tied 0 to 0. There are three periods in Hockey. 10: 15 P.M. EST no score in 2nd period still 0-0

Two great Goalies

Congratulations to Union's fine play this evening.

All four teams are in ABC-USA territory . :) :) :) Two (Union and BC) in CBFNE region shared with ABC-USA Upstate NY and Massachusetts regions.

ALABAMA University at Huntsville ia the only Div 1. School in the south fielding an Ice Hockey team.

9:09 to go Minnesota draws first blood North Dakota comes back to tie on next play at 8:41 to go.

Minnesota wins with Goal in last 1.25 seconds SCORE; Minnesota 2 (North Dakota 1).

So it is Union VS Minnesota in the final.

GO! Dutchmen. I really didn't want to see a sudden death overtime.

It was the first goal of the season for the fellow who scored the winning shot.

That would be University of Alabama - Huntsville. A top notch research university.

Next weekend going on an annual golf outing with a group of about 15 professors and assorted others. Crossville Tennessee area - 4 rounds in 3 days. Last year they were all concerned about the hockey program going under. But enough local sponsorship was found to keep the program.

Seems a bit ironic, but out in my home state, the University of Arizona has an ice hockey team, the IceCats. Don't know if that counts as the "south" or not. Looking down the roster, there are a few Arizona and California kids scattered among a lot of Canadians from British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba, and a few from Ontario, and a pretty good sized roster from New York. I'm sure the warm weather is the attraction. There are a couple of other schools in the Southwest who have teams, Arizona State does, and I think Cal State Long Beach.

Ed: No Sandy, at least not in my book, Arizona does not count as the South although they havve a significant number of Southern Baptist. Do you consider Arizona southern, Southwestern or western?

I had not been in Arkansas very long when I learned that most razorbacks prefer to be considered Southwestern rather than Southern.

And while the South has only one NCAA sanctioned Hockey team they have a number of Div 1, Pro Hockey teams 2 in Fl, 1 each in Virginia Tn., NC. Mo, and Ga. Also Arizona has one.
