Amazingly, the Cowboy offense was on the field for a total of 18:13, whereas the Cardinal offense had the ball for 41:47. (Source...) The Pokes never led in the game until that final FG. I was hoping like heck that it wouldn't go into OT because I didn't see a way under the sun that the Pokes ever stop the Cardinal in the Red Zone in OT. I thought it was a stroke of genius on Gundy's part to go on defense first. The Poke defense had been on the field for 41:47 but had some time to recoup during the coin toss for the OT period. Amazingly, the Poke defense dug down deep in the OT and drove the Cardinal backward.
Speaking of QBs, Andrew Luck is quite a a good one, but I'll take Weeden over him 7 days a week. When all was said and done, Weeden actually outplayed Luck. His stats weren't qute as good, but he came through in the clutch on numerous occasions. I saw one sign with an orange and black message in it which read, "WHO NEEDS LUCK WHEN YOU HAVE WEEDEN?
When the Pokes got the ball in their half of the OT they had one thing in mind, i.e. go for the win with a FG. Unlike Stanford's kicker, Cowboy kicker, Quinn Sharp, is the best kicker/punter in the Big XII. He was named All-Big 12 and a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America. He was semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. Stepped into a tough chore as a redshirt freshman when he had to replace Ray Guy Award winner Matt Fodge. He topped the nation with 53 touchbacks on kickoffs after leading the country in that category in 2009 ... His 2010 punting average of 46.24 yards ranked second nationally and set a new OSU single-season record .. His candidacy for the 2010 Ray Guy Award was hindered when his name disappeared from the NCAA statistics for a week because he did not have enough attempts to qualify. Anyway, the kick was a mere chip shot for him. I knew, without a doubt, that we had the game won when Williamson's FG went wide left. Best year in OSU football history. Best team in OSU football history.
Well, as you can imagine, I'm on cloud nine proud of the Cowboys. The Big XII may be the best conference, top to bottom, in the nation this year. They've only lost 1 bowl game this season. Don't think the SEC can boast that record. There's for sure going to be another SEC loss when LSU and Alabama play. I believe the SEC guys boast much but can't deliver. IMHO, the SCE sure ain't what their boastful supporters have them cracked up to be..
You don't know how much I hate that. Stanford is my team, but in two pools I took OSU to cover the point spread which was 3.5 points. So if the guy had scored a touchdown on that last play at least I would have won in the pools (one of which I was ahead on). Or if the freshman field goal kicker had just finished it out in regulation, at least Stanford would have won.I understand your pain quite well. I spent most of my life watching the Pokes come up short in big games like that. We've had some mighty good teams in the past that should have won games but didn't in situations like this. Although this may be the biggest win in OSU history, it still pales by comparison to the drubbing the Cowboys put on the poor Oklahoma Sooners. I'll go to my grave enjoying that one..

Oh well, at least I have Alabama left and I picked them.I'm with you on this one. I'd like nothing better than to see Alabama put a whipping on LSU. Although it won't happen, an Alabama win would the Cowboys in position to possibly have a split National Championship. So I in your corner on this one.
I took off work at the paper last night so I could watch the game and it's time for me to head to my 2nd job. I'll open up the Enid Denny Price YMCA in less than an hour (Gotta be there at 4am). I open the doors and get things ready for the folks to come in and exercise. There will be a lot of happiness there today
