Yo Aaron! Didn't see you in the crowd today at Boone Picken Stadium. But then the cameras didn't pan the Baylor fans very often. So I don't know if you made it up to Stillwater today or not.

To be honest, I was a bit nervous about the Bears in the opening drive. Griffin III looked as though he was going to single-handedly destroy the Cowboys, chewing up yardage like crazy. But he ran out of gas before they reached the end zone. Poor Bears didn't score until the 2nd half. By that time the Cowboys had already chalked up a score of 31-zip. Hope this video clip isn't too painful for you to watch, but some of our friends might enjoy it. High-flying Bears came in second to the Big XII South's #1 team...

This postseason is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in recent memory. I'm hoping Oregon gets upset so TCU can shove a stake in the heart of the SEC.

My guess is that both Oregon and Auburn will lose a game before the end of the season/conference playoffs. That will leave TCU and Boise State and no matter who wins that game, there will be much discussion about who really is the best team.

With LSU's win over Alabama, Auburn is in pretty good shape, though I don't see them going through what remains of their season unbeaten. The SEC is over-rated, even more than it usually is. Oregon's last real challenge of the football season comes in about three weeks when they host Arizona, and even though I'm a big Wildcat fan, I don't think they'll knock off the Ducks in Autzen. Bottom line, Boise will get left out and the sportswriters and pollsters who are blind to the SEC's many faults will try their dead level best to prevent a real national title game from taking place in Glendale between Oregon and TCU. They almost feel obligated to put an SEC team in there, even if they do have one loss.

On the other hand, it might be kind of fun to watch Oregon run up 60 points and dismantle Auburn.

Ah, I see Flick is doing quite a bit of trashing talking.

That's fine. But I would like to remind him that Baylor hasn't had a 6-win season since the mid90s. Even with the OK State beating, we're 7-3 on bowl bound and up until our loss in Stillwater had a 3-game Big 12 winstreak. 7 wins with two home games left on the schedule....Baylor fans are excited about football for the first time in many many years.

I didn't make it to Stillwater (went to the UGA game last year in Stillwater, we lost, no plans to return!). But I did get to see Baylor beat UT in Austin for the first time since 1991 the week before. That was a moment of glory to be with a few thousand Baylor fans as our Bears silenced about 100,000 Longhorns.

Gotta rank that game as my greatest football experience, right up there with the team that I saw UGA pull out a last second victory over Auburn in Auburn back in 2002 paving the way for a Sugar Bowl appearance and victory over FSU. The Longhorns were definitely more gracious in their defeat, having been embarassed the week before against Iowa State. The Auburn fans threw beer at us on the way to the parking lot.

Having seen TCU once this year, I think that's a team that deserves a shot at the title even over a 1-loss Auburn team. No way Auburn finishes the year undefeated, in my opinion.

I would like to nominate Flick for the Tin Spur of Trash Talking.

That was vintage trash talk. It was pure, simple, and even smelled of a bit of sarcasm. A thing of delight to read.

With that being said, I'm rooting for whoever is playing your cowgirls next week. :p ;)

Trash talking or not, OSU is the new king of the Big 12 South, and probably the odds-on favorite to face off against the Cornhuskers in the conference championship. Baylor has home games left against Texas A&M and Oklahoma, they are certainly favored against the Aggies, and it would be a mild upset, not a huge one, if they knocked off the Sooners. Looks like they could wind up in the Cotton Bowl or the Holiday Bowl, worst case scenario the Alamo or Insight.

1) Hey, Tim, I learned the fine art of trash talking from the one and only William of Georgia. He taught me all I know. I gotta admit it, I'm pretty adept at it. :D Incidentally, re: that "Tin Spur", I don't know who deals in those things...

2) Uhhhh... That would be the low-flying hornless, Texas Shorthorns...

Thanks, Sandy... Yes, the Cowboys are alone atop the Big XII South. We still have Texas on the road (next week), Kansas on the road (the following week), and Oklahoma at home (the final game). As Coach Gundy says, we'll have to take'em one game at a time. The Cowboys came in on this week's BCS standing at #10. Oklahoma dropped to #16. First time the Cowboys have ranked above the Sooners in a good long while.

Regarding Baylor, I hope they finish 2nd to OSU. I think they have a better team than showed up on Saturday past...

Not being in Texas anymore, I don't hear the news regarding who might be moving toward Big-12 membership to take the place of Nebraska and Colorado. At one point, TCU was mentioned, along with Houston, and talk of the "north" division being anyone who wasn't in Texas (OU, OSU, KU, KSU, Mizzou, ISU). I'm not sure what the scoop is now.

Playing Texas in Austin seems to be quite an advantage for the opponent this year. Losing to OSU could put a real bind on their bowl hopes. They've got to win two to even be eligible, and with OSU and A&M both left, I don't think that's gonna happen. Don't you know the Cornhuskers would love to have their game with UT back?

Congratulations to My Favorite Okie for the Cowgirls great season...so far. I predict they will fold like a cheap tent before a shabby Sooner team, though I hope otherwise.

Baylor gets to enjoy a season once a generation. I don't begrudge them for this one.

Does any sentient person believe Boise State or Utah could make it through a season without getting shellacked at least a couple of times in either SEC division? Boise came to Athens a few years ago and their big gun QB spent the fourth quarter between the hedges on the bench, in tears.

Not that I have much call to say about anything with UGA losing to Colorado which managed to squander a 4 TD lead in the last quarter to lose to Kansas, who has lost their previous four games by an average of about 35 points. Oh, the shame. Our only hope is to upset Auburn, who ought to win all they can before the NCAA takes it all away for you-know-who's attempt to do you-know-what.

You may be correct, but the way both teams are playing right now, the Pokes have a very good chance. I'm more concerned about Texas at the moment. Cowboys have been notorious for losing close games the Horns in recent years...

Yes.

Perhaps not unbeaten, but not shellacked. They'd be competetive in the west, and run all over the east this season.

Utah, season before last, finished off Alabama in a bowl game. Andy Dalton and TCU would make quick work of just about everyone in the SEC, and would hold their own with the big boys.

Flick is good at Trash Talking

Postby Stephen Fox » Tue Nov 09, 2010 11:33 am

Effie is his Saving Grace.

I haven't counted the names and institutions in his Trash Talk, I have more substantive things to consider like what's at Religion Dispatches this morning and how it may play for the ongoing church/state legacy for the Baptist witness in America. May start a new Thread on that soon, but I'm sure Flick's Trash Talk will get more hits; that just the nature of the Premiere Progressive Baptist online chat room these days in America :brick: :brick: :gavel: :wall:  :blech: :thumb: :thumb: :P :P :P

That said, No Golden Spur for me.

Two things about Football.

Maybe three or four.

Flick will probably go to his grave having never read the Howell Raines piece on Wallace and Bear Bryant. Maybe Dave Miller and Cb Scott Will read it.

2)McElroy is a Rhodes Scholar candidate and will outfox Auburn along with the Bama Brain Trust, though I will be pulling for Auburn with all My heart.

3Ga can beat Auburn; but it could as easily be an Auburn Rout.

Vnday Couch Robbie Caldwell was my Furman classmate.

Oregon will be number ONe when it is all over.

Would love to see Bama Play Stanford in a blwo this year with true QB great Luck facing Saban brain trust.

Luck is the premiere QB. Cam Newton has a great narratvie, is something like Secretariat and Barbaro; a physical specimen of post human proportions and a big heart;; but with all that at stake, Auburn can come unglued wif the Prince falters or goes down.

By his own testimonry, William Thornton knows more about baseball than he does about Football; the Doioley's had great Charisma, but if you take that out of the equation and hersechel Walker; UGA is a mediocre football program :D

If Gaffney makes it all the way through to play Dorman for the State Championship; well to quote from the Movie:

No limit to Grace

Not even at FBC Statham Georgia I would hope.

Before this last round broke compliments of Urban Meyer, Cam Newton was pretty much redeemed in my eyes.

Here was the story as of two weeks ago.

Will be interesting to see how the religion of Tim Tebow inflects this parable as it continues to play out:

I say Let Cam Newton play.

In meantime would be interesting to see how long the RollCrimsonTide Fluorished if they played up to Stanford Standards

Cam Newton was a coach’s dream –
His path toward N-F-L,
And Miss.-State simply should not scream,
Its bid was bound to fail.

At Auburn money is no vice,
Good quarterbacks not cheap,
200 thou will just suffice
To make its foes all weep.

So…cut the lad some slack withal…
And give his dad a hand,
The bumps, concussions in football
Are worth 200 grand!

Mississippi State is a surprise this year. I hope they can knock off Alabama this weekend. That will shake up the SEC.

First edit: Excuse me...I had Alabama confused with Auburn. However, a loss to Miss State could send Alabama to a "low tier" bowl game.

Carter Stadium, Ft. Worth

I'm watching the Aztecs vs. Horned Frogs game on Versus Cable Network. The announcer just said that the stadium in Ft. Worth will be imploded in three weeks. It looks like a pretty nice stadium to me.

How old is it? Has TCU been invited to play at Cowboys Palace in Arlington?

Big east is pretty balanced

Ed: Upon beating Louisville today, South Florida is Bowl eligible for the 6th straight year. Not bad for
a school with only 14 years of football history. They are 3-2 in previous Bowls and recruiting improves each year.
