Troubling but interesting examination this morning on the Diane Rehm show.
Harris County is where Pressler made his mark in the legal profession and this book roughly examines the years Pressler was in his heyday in the SBC, though through the lens of a different subject.
Mohler has taken great interest in the coming discussion the CBF is having at Mercer.
With Scalia and Judge Thomas getting scrutiny in this book, maybe Pressler's Civil Rights views will once again merit examination. Rice University's Chandler Davidson has said Pressler's family views on Race were suspect in the 50's and 60's; and there are reports Pressler's family was no fan of Carlyle Marney when he was at FBC Austin, across the street from the state legislature.
So a lot of ways to examine Pressler in this key era.

I first met Pressler in the press room of the San Antonio SBC in 88 and asked about his ties to Jesse Helms. Made reference again in New Orleans and then in October of 1990 when Pressler and David Montoya had a discussion at Samford. Last saw Pressler in 2003, April I think it was, when he came to Taylor Rd BC in Montgomery to abet the fortunes of fellow now head of AlCap in the state. The day before the two of them had lunch with Judge Roy Moore, whom it appears will once again be Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Alabama. Will be interesting to see what Chuck Pickering and Alan Sears make of that.
So Pressler on this book. His review and that of Mohler will be interesting as they geographically set the drama in Harris County.

Baptist Story in Pressler's Back Yard

Interesting thicket here from Harris County, Texas where Pressler's Judicial Career caught the eye of Bush 41 and a nomination to US Ethics Office ensued.

Read the opening paragraph. Almost everybody involved raised Baptist. Surely Mohler has something to say about this matter that roughly parallels in time and key geography, the hey day of the SBC Takeover by fundamentalists. Such a coincidence.

Further investigation is called for by Albert Mohler and Richard Land. Certainly Baptist Press will call Chandler Davidson for his insight into this shadowy world in the county where Pressler practiced and President Bush and Karl Rove know so well.
