Alan Sears, Hannity, Rland and the War on Faith

Postby Stephen Fox » Tue Feb 14, 2012 4:45 pm

Friday night Richard Land was an hour special with Sean Hannity on Fox News titled the War on Faith. Land gave notice at his ERLC site.

It was a fiasco all men, trying to make political hay off Prez Obama's miscues about Contraception and the Catholic Church.

Now Robert Parham has joined the wider discussion reacting to a Newsweek Cover Story

http://www.abpnews.com/content/view/7141/53/

To get to the bottom of the matter, ABPnews, Bob Allen; and Parham and Ethicsdaily.com should coordinate to take a close look at this Drama as being directed by Karl Rove and his American Crossroads Pac. Bill Moyers has pretty good outline in the recent issue of Christian Ethics Today.
Of particular interest to Southern Baptists should be the world of Charles Pickering and the Allied Defense Fund; its director Alan Sears who with Jesse Helms operative Sam Currin went after James Dunn and the Baptist Joint Committee in the 80's.
Richard Land is key person in this drama largely orchestrated by Karl Rove at the bidding of his big Oil donors in Texas of which Judge Paul Pressler is key.

Foxy,

Great response by Jon Stewart last night on Daily Show to Richard Land in segment titled "The Vagina Idealogues: Sean Hannity's Holy Sausage Fest"

Check it out.

My favorite line:

You've confused the war on your religion with not always getting everything you want. It's being part of a society - not everything goes your way. I don't let my kids ice cream every night. They wish I did. But even they know, that doesn't make me the Hitler of Ice Cream.

I'm beginning to think that Stewart is one of the most astute commentators we have, esp. in the area of politics. I love the way his humor deflates a lot of big egos with the truth, told with real wit and humor.

BDW beat me to linking to The Daily Show. I can't for the life of me figure out why we keep funding the jokers at the ERLC. Biggest waste of money in the SBC in my opinion. Yet, every time, without fail, when critiquing an SBC institution or figure for how poorly the represent the SBC the rejoinder is autonomy. Each institution has autonomy like each church has autonomy. I'm beginning to think the head retards in charge bang that drum into the laity's heads so they'll defend the constantly stupid actions they continue to plan to undertake. We know that people aren't going to understand our polity in the public and how our absolute autonomy ideals mean that we can't even have spokespeople and still we fund people who have a regular part of their job to look like they are some kind of spokesperson for us or authority on our views. It doesn't make any sense why we choose to misrepresent ourselves to the public by paying for people to have the opportunity to so horrendously misrepresent us so regularly.

My latest comment in Rome News Tribune

As Super Tuesday approaches and Newt and Santorum play the religion card

NPR reports that of 13 million dollars raised by Karl Rove's American Crossroads 6 donors in the Oil Business around Houston are the major contributors.
The Southern Baptist Convention's Paul Pressler hosted a Ranch gathering to anoint Rick Santorum for President the week before the S.C. Primary. Rove's delegate for mischief with Baptists is Richard Land who worked closely with Rove during the Bush administration.
Religion wedge issue politics will be front and center as Super Tuesday approaches; and the world of Nelson Price and Shorter College is at the Center of it.
Giberson and Stephens have Price's Number in the annointed; as does the website religiondispatches.org. I hope folks of influence and conscience in NW Georgia use these sources in this chaotic political season where at times by ignorance and other times by design the Southern Baptist Convention has become the devil's playground for tax Breaks for Big Oil and Karl Rove and his handlers

Mohler more Roman than American Catholics

Postby Stephen Fox » Wed Mar 07, 2012 4:13 pm

Posner adds new wit to an old line of detractors of Al Mohler; and I think she nails it; nails Richard Land in the collateral damage as well

Two letters, Viewpoints March 11 Bham News

Postby Stephen Fox » Mon Mar 12, 2012 12:39 pm

I didn't want to start a new thread with these letters; and one of them is more about immigration than the War on Faith. But as they both have a strong SBC relation and appeared two days before the Bama Prez Primary in the Bham News Sunday oped pages thought I would put them up.
My intention is to write a letter for publication to the Bham News taking both fellows to task.
Will say more later, but I was disturbed Mr. Lowther felt compelled to mention Jeremiah Wright in this convoluted Southern Baptist endorsement of Mitt Romney

And A Samford Proff on Richard Land's lecture at Samford on the Bama Immigration bill

Parham with a word for Bama SBC GOP Leader AB Lowther

See Lowther's letter in the link above. Parham is grand here. Hope I can reference him in my letter To Bham News in dissent to Lowther. Like lot of Baptists Republicans in Bama and Beyond, Lowther needs some serious remediation.

Barton, Obama and the Bible

Postby Stephen Fox » Mon Mar 12, 2012 2:26 pm

Gene Scarborugh has a related conversation in Public Policy, but this fits perfectly in the heart of Richard Land's SBC World, and the brother Lowther here in Bama in the link above
