I am proud to call Balmer a friend, and hope my friendship with him does not bring any opprobrium to his good name.

Had great good fortune to spend an hour with Balmer in2002 when he spoke at Samford. I helped get him on statewide PBS for 30 minute broadcast; and as he says through my "agency" he spoke at Furman five years ago, on same night as the Charles Marsh hero of God's Long Summer, Cleveland Sellers.

Balmer has a strong word here. I hope it gets to the Collinsville Baptist Church and Truett Memorial in Hayesville, N.C. and every parish and precinct.

Matthew Morgan, a native of Collinsville, was a student of Balmer as visitting proff at Yale just a few years ago.

But the larger question is Is This what George Truett had in mind for Cooperative Program Dollars when he spoke on the steps of the Nation's Capitol in 1918?

And if it is not, how many lingering people in the SBC who know better will keep on supporting this mess.

Who is Richard Land? What does he have in common with George Wallace? Why Do public school teachers in the pew of the SBC continue to put up with this?
