You are Tim Rogers? I should have known. You write to William Thornton, a man I've never met, but a fellow pastor who is correct in pointing out that you are slandering a Christian brother (me), and say:

"You need to show me where I slandered WB by saying he was "addicted to gambling". I have said he did not say he wasn't."

Are you serious? First, you imply my kids have moral "issues." Then, I respond with the truth. Now, you say, "I'm not saying Wade is addicted to gambling. I'm only saying he did not say he wasn't." Unbelievable. You remind me of someone who asks the question, "When did you stop beating your wife.' For you to be unable see that your singular goal is to denigrate and destroy my character is either true blindness or extraordinary deviousness. I am NOT addicted to gambling, alcohol, drugs, pornography, homosexuality, beastiality, prostitutes, and whatever else you wish to conjure up as an attack on me. I am addicted to Jesus Christ and stopping people like you and your cohorts from attempting to destroy His kingdom.

Tim, I believe what you are writing is set on fire from hell itself. My prayer is that it is only the words set on fire by hell and not the soul which conjures them up.

Your point is valid. An option was to do nothing. However, in consultation with my father, a few close friends, and a wonderfully wise wife, I made it public. There are strengths and weaknesses in both responses. The great weakness in keeping it quiet is to embolden or empower the moron who wrote it. When the stinger is pulled from the bee, it dies.

When if you listen to the SBC Today Bunch with Caner on their podcast last month, and how Tim's bunch was fawning over Caner and refusing to ask him the obvious questions about his inconsistencies....and now their silence in the face of even more proof of his lies....I would be justifed in calling Tim Rogers a Caner-worshipper. Tim "Caner Worshipper" Rogers.

Besides, Tim, you never have told us you're NOT a Caner worshipper.

The ones with rose-colored glasses are those who just refuse to accept the fact that Caner for a decade has been painting the image of himself as a trained jihadist, someone living in majority Muslim countries. He has done it consistently for a decade, traveling most every weekend preaching the same basic two sermons at new places he hasn't been, giving the same basic version of events that turns out to be great exaggerations of his testimony.

Before 9/11, he pastored as "Butch Caner". Yep, Butch.

After 9/11, he transformed himself into "Ergun Mehmet Caner", the ex-devout Muslim, "trained to do that which was done on 9/11". And he consistently, for going on 9 years now, has told this embellished story about himself, when the record shows he moved to Ohio at the age of 4.

And to make matters worse, he has consistently used this image of himself as some sort of "olive skinned", "Turkish immigrant", to give him the platform to travel all over the country using stereotypes of other minorities to get his audiences to have a good belly laugh. One of the worst was Caner telling an audience on the west coast that if he and his wife ever decide to adopt, it will be a Mexican child, because they will need their roof repaired, and will need someone to care for the yard.

Guys like Tim Rogers need to take off their rose-colored glasses, and call for Caner to publicly apologize and repent for the decade of deceit.

The only thing I know about UNISA is that several years ago, I was in a hospital waiting room with a fundamentalist Southern Baptist pastor, and he excitely told me that he was working on a Ph.D. (I think, maybe a Th.D.) from there. He tried to recruit me to work with them too. In the course of conversation, he also told me that he was working on a D.Min. at SEBTS. I asked him if that were not a problem--I seemed to remember that when I did my D.Min. (not at a Southern Baptist institution, by the way), we were prohibited from any degree work not part of the program at other schools. His response was that as long as SEBTS didn't know about UNISA and UNISA didn't know about SEBTS, he was all right. I next asked him how he could possibly balance the coursework for a D.Min., a full time pastorate, and a family, on top of the coursework for a Ph.D. His answer was that the work at UNISA hardly added any work to his load, and he was somehow able to use much of what he was reading and writing at SEBTS to satisfy work at UNISA. I never had the impression this guy was much smarter than me, and after that conversation, I had no desire to get involved with UNISA--not that I did before.

I suspect the UNISA distance-learning degree programs are about as academically challenging as those offered online by Liberty University, the world's largest Christian university. Caner is probably a good fit at Liberty.

The media often describes Baylor as the largest Baptist university in the world with a student body of 14,800. However, I have encountered a few folks in the blogosphere who want to give Liberty that title. While Liberty claims nearly 12,000 residential, non-distance learning students, they boast over 45,000 online students.

Sorry I have to explain it to you my point about "Butch", but I will.

You see, Tim, there was no "Ergun Caner" before 9/11. There was "Pastor Butch Caner". That is what he went by. That is my point. Yes, I know that is his nickname, he tells that to every audience that he preaches to, that his wife calls him "Butch".

After 9/11, "Butch Caner" from Columbus, Ohio became "Ergun Mehmet Caner", from Istanbul, Turkey, trained in Jihad and "trained to do that which was done on 9/11"

Get it? I know you don't and won't, but most others do.
