The SBC in graphics, interesting

Note California with more SBC churches than Arkansas.

No state is more Southern Baptist than Mississippi.

I believe one is compelled to conclude that the SBC is indeed a quite heavily southern denomination, by any measure.

Wonder what a CBF map would look like?

Some of these numbers seem inflated. I can say for sure that the Montana numbers (adherents and percentages) are inflated; both should be much lower. My guess is that the study used self-reported numbers and perhaps even extrapolated some data.

Let's not hold it against 'em, because they do have other good qualities.

I was rather surprised to see that Oklahoma ranked #12 ahead of Louisiana (#13), California (#14), & Arkansas (#15). Especially Louisiana...

Yes, and Oklahoma is the 3rd most Southern Baptist state. Five spots above Georgia. Now that near 'bout blows my mind... :o

I agree. Here's an interesting stat for you William. Oklahoma has 1578 SBC churches. There are 15 ABCUSA churches in the state. Only one of the 15 is an Anglo congregation. The other 14 ABC churches are Native American and I pastor one of them... How's that for being in the minority? To put it another way, how's that for me moving from the most dominant Baptist denomination to the smallest minority Baptist denomination in the state? One might conclude that I've gone backward in the Baptist world, but I would argue just the opposite. I'm happier now than at any time in my ministerial career. With whatever negative factors that may exist in the ABCUSA, I wouldn't go back to the SBC ever again...

Can't tell you how other southern CBF states stack up against the SBC, but I can give you an idea how the CBFOklahoma stands against the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.
    Congregations: Number of Adherents:
    • BGCO = 967,223
    • CBFO =1,200 (highly semi-educated guess)

I'm not going to try to estimate a number - definitely don't know enough about CBFO

But it's gotta be more than 1,200. Between 22 CBF churches, that's only like 54-55 folks per church. I would guess that FBC Norman, FBC Oklahoma City and FBC Tulsa average a good bit more than 55.

Is FBC Tulsa (I was a member from 1954-1962) a CBFO church?

A comparison with ABC (and heck, throw in CBA and GARBC) can be interesting to contrast with SBC. Obviously, "American" pretty much equates to "not Southern". ;-)
