If you read Ware's works in toto, you'll find his position is more clearly articulated. I had the pleasure of sitting in his classes at SBTS. GREAT guy; wonderful minister!
Also, I recently received a gift I found quite interesting: a copy of the 1863 "Baptist Hymnal for Use in Church and Home" printed by the American Baptist Publication Society in Philadelphis (my wife [MCM 1990 SBTS] and I collect hymnals). Apparently, this was a joint project including Baptists in the North and Southern Baptists. John A. Broadus and Basil Manly, Jr., are among the signatories to approval of the printers proof sheets.
