David knows of my support for him, and remain appalled at the way not only he and many moderates have been treated, but also individuals such as Wade Burleson. The latter has demonstrated some late-but-admirable courage as his eyes continue to open. Likewise, I believe the words of support from conservative friends Jonathan, JohnS, and William are no doubt sincere.
Most of us have been in situations where we've faced the uncomfortable challenge of wishing to "show support" for a friend or loved one during times of hitting rock bottom; all the while being fully convinced that person's own behavior (or actions) triggered such a mess.
But I'll never understand a mindset that basically declares: "We support the firings, harassment, intimidation, and other deplorable methods used against seminary teachers, pastors, and lay leaders, then and now. Iin fact, we continue contributing financially to the national Cooperative Program weekly, in order to train future SBC leaders to uphold the resurgence, even if the number purged grows to 5, 000.... What's that? My friend David F was one of them? Okay then... We'll just support purging, or having purged, the other 4,999..."
