...and they are labeled "The Caucus Group" by some of the prominent bloggers, for one and is another. Duren is one of the mega-bloggers that was so widely read <Greensboro.
The Caucus Group is presumably an unnamed, unnumbered group of the 89 IMB trustees that have in common stated or voted opposition to Burleson. Burleson has complained loudly about groups of trustees caucusing prior to imb meetings and then voting on matters. Such is against trustee policy and ought not to happen but I suspect that any 89 member organization will have some backroom, hotel lobby folks who like to discuss things of importance. When such discussions cross over into a violation of rules, I don't know. Certainly, if a group meets and decides that one will make a motion etc. that is caucusing.
Burleson, Duren and the others have stated that they don't want any of the "Caucus Group" members on the panel appointed to examine the issues raised by burleson in his Greensboro motion that was referred to the IMB, said Caucus Group presumably having made up their minds on issues or being biased. I presume that the same principle would prevent Burleson and/or any of his trustee supporters, since their positions are staked out and have been blogged about, albeit without a physical caucus.
We will see who is named by the chairman. Burleson has already called for a year of rest for critics of the IMB trustees. We will see if the composition of this committee satisfies the Burleson folks. I predict that it will not and not a few observers suspect that nothing short of capitulation to the Burleson minority on the Trustee board will be satisfactory.
Southern Baptists have the trustee board they chose. If their actions are unsatisfactory, then opponents need to work to replace them with those in agreement with their views.
