More bests and worsts

Single best line of the convention: Tom Ascol, in an extemporaneous reply to the assertion that abstinence from alcohol made us holy and pure in our Christian walk, said, "I do not think that we can be more holy than Jesus Christ,” he said, adding that “Christ turned water into wine.”

Single worst line of the convention: I can't find his exact nominating speech but Johnny Hunt, who ought to know better, said when nominating Ronnie Floyd, that if Floyd was elected, he would lead the convention to much higher Cooperative Program giving.

Best music person: Hands down, Jim Whitmire. Best music minister of our generation.

Most inappropriate behavior: After a splendid presentation by Jerry Rankin and some missionaries about the needs for unreached people groups in West Africa, Tom Oliff was asked to lead the convention in prayer. He finally got around to praying, but it looked to me like he was less interested in praying for those humble mssys in W AFrica than some other matters. I may be prejudiced here in my view that when someone is to pray they ought to pray.

Most outstanding reporter present: Rob Marus, of course. That he bought my lunch is immaterial to this award.
