He's a good writer. In my mind's eye, I can see Condolezza Rice, a black female, being constantly interrupted by the cheers and ovations of a mostly white, mostly gray-headed audience. That's an image of contrasts. Arguably the largest crowd of the entire convention, Southern Baptists submitting their attention to a female authority figure (and an African-American one at that!), standing behind (for all intents and purposes) the pulpit that represents all SBC pulpits, who drinks, and supports abortion rights, brings a bit of a smile to that same mind's eye. The fact that the SBC messengers gave their loudest cheers to someone who represents what they consider to be three of the great "evils" of the world--females in authority, abortion rights and social drinking (she's also in favor of gay marriage, BTW) is funny, and I'm glad this blog points it out.
