How will the SBC treat these groups?
Posted: Sun Jun 11, 2006 7:29 amI'm off to G'boro tomorrow to attend the SBC for the first time in a few years. I'll offer some scintillating reports, brilliant commentary, and insightful observations for BLife while I'm there.
How will this SBC treat these folks?
The Bloggers
Several of the blogging brethren are all excited about live blogging from Greensboro which may mean (a) the same several dozen get to talk to each other from across the convention hall, online, or from motel to motel, or, (b) they spot the skybox stuff early on and can rally the troops on the floor, or, (c) Frank Page is elected and that is sufficient for them to declare victory. Who knows how many votes the bloggers can pull or influence. My opinion is that the instant, constant news provided these past few months has made it difficult for the establishment candidate, dubbed "Armani Ronni" Floyd by one of the irreverent blogging boys, to succeed.
The Calvinists
SBC Calvinists finally figure into a SBC election, but don't have a good dog in the fight, really. Page is not their guy, nor Sutton, and Ronnie has that anathemaic firetruck, but the calvinists really only want to make their points. They've always been great at that if not at building churches or holding offices in the SBC. They do have Mark Dever, of of their own, running for 1st VP, perhaps a symbolic victory there if he wins. On the VPs: Who cares? If the USofA Vice Presidency is compared to a bucket of warm, uh, expectoration, how would one describe one of the SBC's VP posts? Spiffy resume enhancer?
The old guard SBC establishment
It's funny to speak of the PP boys et al as 'establishment' but they have been for a generation now. Looks to me like the winds of change are blowing. RFloyd is shackled by that 0.27% ball-and-chain. I don't see him shaking it. Sutton, perhaps. Page probably scares the benguets out of the power broker brethren.
