Welcome William Thornton...

Postby David Flick » Tue Jun 06, 2006 3:32 am

On behalf of the owner and staff of BaptistLife.Com, I would like to welcome William (Thornton) to the moderating team. He will become the moderator of the new SBC News and Trends Forum. While William doesn't need an introduction, I want to share some information with the BaptistLife family.

William is experienced with Baptist cyberspace discussion forms. I became cyberly acquainted with him back on the old SBCNet Discussion Forum which was hosted on CompuServe. It was sometime around 1995. In those early days of Baptist cyberspace discussion, Bruce, Ed, William and I were all discussing Baptist issues on that forum. For more than a decade, he has been actively discussing Baptist issues, particularly Southern Baptist issues. It was prior to 2KBF&M and Weblogs (blogs). Cyberly speaking, it was ancient of days...

Being a Southern Baptist, William is well qualified to moderate a SBC forum. His knowledge of Southern Baptist life is a positive factor. He speaks as an "insider," inasmuch as he's the only moderator who is still a Southern Baptist.

He has been an active member of the BaptistLife family since March of 2000, which is when BaptistLife began after SBCNet ceased to exist. William has posted over 1,850 messages since August of 2004, which was the last update of our present format.

Welcome to the BL.Com staff, William. We're happy to have you on the moderating team. Your first assignment is to go to Greensboro next week and report the interesting news about the expected historic annual meeting that is certain to occur. Find a computer somewhere and give us some fodder for discussion. We're looking for at least ten hot threads to come out of that convention.

Here's a Golden Spur for you. (Moderators don't get many of these...)

David, your "Golden Spur" could not have been bequeathed on a more deserving person. :thumb: Thanks for your input, as well as the support of the other Moderators here at BAPTISTLIFE.COM, in the addition of this forum to the message board!

Well, now that I am a big gun moderator on this forum...I'm having trouble logging in...joke's on me, I guess. This is my (William's) post:

For the record, I am an SBC renegade, having sometimes been accused of being a closet CBFer. Look for me at both the SBC in Greensboro and the CBF in Atlanta...the latter as a stealth attendee of course.

1,850+ messages? Egad...I really need to get a life.

Of the BL trio, Bruce, David, and Ed (sorry Tim...you're yet a neophyte here): Bruce is Clark Kent in person, Superman online. David, used to slap me around online...then I got to know him. He is now my favorite ex-SBCer. I feel well-qualified to moderate having learned all the tricks from my onion ring loving friend Ed.

Here's a Golden Spur for you. (Moderators don't get many of these...)

William, you deserve a Golden Spur for being one of the original participants in online Baptist discussion, even prior to the days of the Internet as we know it! Perhaps that makes you somewhat akin to Barry Bonds closing in on the record books ... minus the steroids, of course (although juicing stats is not unknown among some of your fellow SBCers ).

Truly I do appreciate your participation over the years, and am most grateful that you have agreed to moderate this (timely, I do believe) forum. I do not know of anymore more qualified for the task. :)

Such praise from known CBF sympathizers will likely sink my chances of SBC glory.
