Prophetic Moderate Baptists?

Postby Sandy » Tue Feb 19, 2019 5:35 pm

Back during the earlier days when moderate Southern Baptists were still battling with conservatives for control of the convention, or in the middle of a "takeover" as they call it, one of the predictions, as I recall, was that the definition of a "church in friendly cooperation with the convention" would be expanded to include more and more churches over time. Well, here we are at a point when the bylaws define what is not "friendly cooperation" with a list of things that is growing longer out of necessity.

Racism and "indifference" to sexual abuse are now added to the list along with failing to label homosexual behavior as a sin.

The addition to the bylaws, if it passes, will be a good thing. I don't think that's what most Moderates had in mind when they were thinking of reasons why churches might be disfellowshipped by resurgence-led leadership but there it is. It took some time, but the groundwork for this was laid by Wade Burleson and Christa Brown.
