The list of extravagant purchases made at SWBTS during recent years seems to be growing. The school's enrollment was declining, but the faculty was growing and overstaffed, they hired a chef for the President, they built a chapel that holds more people than the student body, faculty, staff and neighborhood combined, they made sure that all of the pianos in the music school were expensive Steinways, and they bought some fragments of the dead sea scrolls, some of which are apparently fraudulent.

Who was responsible for oversight?

If these purchases were by designated funds there may be no mismanagement but poor fund-raising principles. Meaning... stuff over students.

Designated funds given to be used as any specific person deems is legal (as far as I know).

Glad things are doing better.

I think the purported DSS fragments were bought with donations. Their upkeep and display may be CP or tuition money. There is plenty of other financial stuff to draw attention to. The upkeep of the prez, 1st lady, mansion, and staff, etc. Let it all be put out there.

Trustees are responsible.

This may be one of those cases where "responsible" and "irresponsible" are synonymous!

"Step out in faith" ... and buy half a dozen new Steinways.
