SBC gains 27,000 members in two months?

On June 12 Greg Laurie announced his (approximately 15,000 member) Harvest Fellowship Church will join the Southern Baptist Convention:

Also, Phoenix, Arizona's 12,000 member Calvary Community Church is now affiliated with the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention:

Now there's a solution to declining numbers.

It's always been the case that a church could send a minimal amount of money to the SBC in Nashville and be a part of the SBC. Unless there is an obvious doctrinal problem that is noticeable, there's no evaluation or assessment and no SBC body has to vote to accept the church. It's different if a church wants to be part of a local association and (less so) state convention. To address this, some have proposed that churches be required to be a part of a local association.

Unless the doctrinal issue came to the attention of the executive committee, or a church sent messengers to the convention, there wouldn't be a way to police that either, unless they've changed some rules.
