Stephen Fox wrote:Molly Worthen does not hate Francis Schaeffer. Only the most thin skinned chip on the shoulder fundy would read Molly in context and come to that conclusion. She does talk about the exchange he had early on with Mark Noll, and find him on the whole to be full of "bluster". At one point she refers to him as a "demagogue". Roger Olson interprets it all as Molly dismissing FS as a "charlatan".

Pseudo Intellectuals like Worthen can't stand Shaeffer because he can match wits with them, and his arguments and scholarly foundation for evangelical, conservative Christianity blows holes in their position.

Read Schaeffer, Stephen. It's obvious you haven't.

I'm sorry, Sandy; Jury is in and Schaeffer fails

Not just Worthen, but a consensus, he got in over his head, and early on when Mark Noll began peer review, Schaeffer got whiney, just like the SBC Fundies the second day of the Conference on Inerrrancy in Ridgecrest 87!

A consensus of who, a few other pseudo-intellectuals biased against a conservative, evangelical view of Christianity?

Pick two of Schaeffer's works, any two, read them, and when you've done that, I'll come back to this conversation and we can talk. I've read everything he wrote, including A Christian Manifesto for Dr. Denison's apologetics class at Southwestern before the board was controlled by the conservative resurgence. Even during the Naylor and Dilday area, his work, to date, was required reading in some classes there, and if I'm not mistaken, I believe he spoke in chapel there once or twice, before my time. And that was under educational leadership that you think was right on target.

David Gushee and ABP inadequate for not reading Molly

Postby Stephen Fox » Fri Mar 07, 2014 1:48 pm

Gushee told me he has not read Moly to date. Right now I am listening to her UNC Radio interview where she talks more about Francis Schaefer.

Here is Gushee, part Two!

Here is Gushee's Part III

Good work, but again a shame he did not bring a mastery of Worthen to the exercise.
