American Baptist Historical Society

Postby Big Daddy Weaver » Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:34 pm

Alexis and I visited the American Baptist Historical Society in Atlanta last Friday (2/26) for a day of research. The staff were very friendly and especially helpful.

I spent most of my time combing through the personal papers of Owen Owens and Jitsuo Morikawa and anything else related to eco-justice. I suspect I will eventually make a return trip to ABHS to finish my research, perhaps after spending a much needed week at the Southern Baptist archive in Nashville.

When I was there I got to see the first minute book of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society and a trunk that belonged to Adoniram Judson.

I too saw the American Baptist Historical Society stacks in both Rochester and Vally Forge but can't honestly say I visited them. In both places I was on a rather quick informal tour. As Bruce may recall Trudy and I were at a Preaching Consortium sponsored by Mercer, when Bill Underwood announced the agreement to locate the collection at Mercer's Atlanta Campus.
