The Minerva Comunity likes we Baptist

Postby Ed Pettibone » Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:04 am

Ed: For Several years before we came to the Adirondacks the ladies of the Minerva Baptist Church had held an annual pie sale early in October. Last year they decided "We are getting to old for this" and it was decided that the pie sale should be a thing of the past. This year how ever folk in the community noted in late September that they had not seen any announcements of a date for THE PIE SALE, so Some of the Catholic, Presbyterian and Methodist ladies plus a few who clam no church, asked if they could have a joint pie sale at the Baptist Church building. The Church agreed and it was assumed by us that the proceeds would be divied up among the four groups. Our ladies decided that they needed to be good hostesses and have coffee and ice cream available as had been the longstanding custom. When it was over and the dishes washes and put away and the Fellowship hall swept, several pies remained and they where taken to the small store down the road where the owner had agreed to sell any left overs w/o commission. A few days latter the woman who had organized the event took a check to the home of a deacon who lives across the road and said, Thanks for every thing. As it turns out they Gave the entire $900.00 proceeds to the Minerva Baptist Church. As always most of the money will go to missions. And our ladies have decided that they want to do it again next year, but on a bit smaller scale than in years past.

Perhaps I should note that ours is the only church Building in Minerva, The Catholics and the Presbyterians meet in Pottersville (7 miles east) and the Methodist in North Creek (8 miles South) . We are across the street from the Minerva Town hall.

What a gracious gesture on the part of the Catholic, Presbyterian, and Methodist ladies.
