Last night Evergreen Association put on a one-night-only production of Seussical at University Christian Church. Hundreds of people attended at $25 a pop. All ticket proceeds are to be split 50-50 between Evergreen's Social Justice ministries and SHARE/WHEEL, the organization that oversees and supports Seattle's Tent Cities for the Homeless. (Tent City IV just completed a 90-day stay at Issaquah Community Church, an Evergreen Baptist congregation; several of the residents attended last night's performance and spoke to the congregation.) Concession sales (candy, coffee, juice etc.) are to support Evergreen youth in attending next summer's More Than a Week national gathering of ABC youth in Colorado. (Young people from University Baptist and MLK Baptist shared the concession-stand and ushering duties.) Mrs Haruo and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. UCC's cavernous sanctuary did not help the audibility of the lines, but enough could be heard to follow the story, which is based on Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches the Egg with the Cat in the Hat as MC.
