Branding in the marketing/name-recognition sense. Branding in the cowpokes-n-tattoo-parlor sense. I made a joke about it at the Evergreen meeting, but there's a serious question, two of them or maybe more actually.

Feel free to talk about the serious questions, too. "The commercialization of churchspeak", for one, and "How ABC-USA can brand more effectively" or "What ABC-USA as a brand name ought to mean to folks" for others.

Agreed. If we are intent on treating ourselves as supermarkets, then we shouldn't be surprised when people treat us as supermarkets--with the subsequent lack of loyalty they show supermarkets when another supermarket appears to offer a better deal. We lose way more than we gain when we play these games--relevance has a price.

Now my reply to Tim it is disconcerting to have folk walk out because they discover a woman about to preach. Trudy's name is on the signs at both churches hear but not in large letters, When she was doing an interim at Latham her name was on the sign in letters about 6 inches tall along with the time of worship. The name of the church LATHAM COMMUNITY BAPTIST was in 8 inch letters & and ABC-USA in about 4 inch letters. One Sunday a family arrived in a van with Kentucky licence plates. They where just in time for the Worship service and out folk greeted them and provided bulletins. Soon they stared whispering among them selves. Just into the call to worship they went all at once to the foyer and an usher stared to point them to the rest rooms, but the man said I am afraid we are in the wrong church we where looking for the Methodist Church. The Deacon that they spoke to said "I could give you directions to the nearest Methodist Church but they have a woman pastor also". In telling me about it latter, he said he had seen their licence plate frame, which said on the top "We Worship at" and on "the bottom " --------- BAPTIST CHURCH" BTW, after his comment they left with out getting directions to the Methodist Church. I imagine they went home and told about the liberal American Baptist Church they almost attended in the NY, Capital area.
