Evergreen Annual Meeting

Postby Haruo » Tue Oct 02, 2007 12:43 am

I have been chosen as one of Fremont Baptist's five (I think) voting delegates (or messengers or representatives or whatever) to the Evergreen Association's annual Regional meeting, which will take place October 12-13 at Japanese Baptist Church. As previously noted somewhere in this forum, the Opening Devotions are slated to be led by "Bacone College" (are they bussing the whole school out here to pray with us?). Other items of interest include
  • Workshop on Native American Concerns,
  • Workshop w/ Roy Medley on ABC/USA,
  • Annual Meeting Worship (Friday) led by Dr. Medley, and
  • Closing Worship (Saturday) ending w/ Taiko Drums
There will also be a Seattle Baptist Union/Asian Appreciation Dinner and Business Meeting following the close of the Evergreen meeting. If anybody has any particular questions they want me to raise, speak now or forever...

Well, I've got an answer to this one: "Opening Worship by Rev. Wil Brown, Chaplain of Bacone College (Native American)".

In addition to Wil Brown the Native American Indian contingent included Duke D..., also a past ABC leader from Oklahoma, I believe, and Larry Spottedsomething from Silverdale (near Seattle). I hope they can get something going here in the urban Indian community.

The convention as a whole was upbeat. Dr. Medley preached twice. There was discussion of what we can do to prepare for the influx of Burmese refugees recently authorized by the Bush Administration, and of the initiatives Dr. Medley (together with both CBF and the AoB) to establish and nurture Baptist-Islamic dialogue here in the US (at the behest of the Baptist Seminary in Beirut).

No controversial decisions were made. Minutes and budget affirmed by consensus. A good time was had by all. I was pressed into choir service. Will post pics eventually. Off to church.
