Land and Jerome Corsi

Will Land join these conservatives with a modicum of conscience and call on the SBC Executive Committeeand State SBC Baptist Directors like Rick Lance and Joe Bob Mizzell here in Alabama to ask SBC pastors across the convetion to denounce Corsi and his book.
'
Roland Martin was posing a similar question to Dobson's Tony Perkins Sat Night before the Saddleback Forum

Where is Land and the SBC on this one

SBC pastors have been dogmatized on abortion.

Richard Land had conference calls with Karl Rove andhad the values campaign.

Lot of pastors are as obsessed with politics as Jonathan and myself; take my friend John KIillian and his blog for instance; and though not the obsession, see John Pierce of Baps Today on Rick Warren, with whom I take issue at some aspects.

I was making specific reference to Frank's chapter on Falwell and the Pillars and the eulogy of Larry McDonald, on same page with Pressler and Patterson and the Council for National Policy at the heart of the SBC takeover.

Corsi's book is Exhibit A of bad political ethics.

Every SBC leader from Frank Page, to JHunt, to Bobby Welch to the SBC ExCom, to Richard Land should make a public comment on the record in relation to this article I have linked above and the Roland Martin/Tony Perkins heat Sat. night before the Warren forum.

I have not had any exchanges with Joel Hunter about this matter, but I sense he would agree with me on this.

Also see Monday night's segment on PBS Newshour with Hunter and Land about Warren and other matters.

Richard Land catches Fire from McClaren

Postby Stephen Fox » Thu Aug 21, 2008 3:22 pm

http://blog.faithinpubliclife.org/2008/ ... _land.html

Looks like one of these fellows (McClaren, Warren) could get their ducks in order and press Land, Edsall style about Jerome Corsi.
Parham was barking up the right tree couple weeks ago when he put Corsi and Roy Moore on same program with some of Pressler's key folks of the council for National Policy.
McClaren et al show no sign of having working conversation of Garry Wills' on The Rove Era, nor do they work from being grounded in Randall Balmers reservations about Land.

From Newsweek Religion blog to PBS Newshour to Larry King; nobody seems able to close the deal on Land.

See recent blog by John Pierce's good friend from Ringgold Georgia on the M Card.
I have to believe Richard Land and Rick Lance and Gary Fenton and Frank Page could do something about that if they wanted to; if the SBC EX Com in one voice owned Land's history with Karl Rove and then spoke with conscience with knowledge of Tom Edsall's story on conservatives with conscience denouncing Corsi

Abortion is a troubling issue

Postby Stephen Fox » Tue Aug 26, 2008 3:30 pm

It is my understanding the first night of the GOP Convention will have as its four featured speakers, all pro-choice.
It is my understanding all the Bush Women are prochoice, including
George W.'s Wife and two daugthers and His Mother.
Among those who have rearranged abortion in their political calculus the last four years are Mark Noll, David Gushee and Joel Hunter and Rick Warren.
Anne Graham Lotz will be speaking at Johns Creek Baptist Church early September; one of the most progressive mainstream Baptist churches in Georgia, strongly identified with BWA and CBF. I am convinced her political calculations on abortion were not a litmus test for her speaking there; at same time would be interesting to have her explore issues of abortion politics with Gushee and Garry Wills vis a vis high profile Republican women at some other event before this fall.
Her Mother and Julie Nixon Eisenhower were great friends, and that is one part of the Graham story I found delightful when learning of it almost 30 years ago.
And I doubt North Phoenix BC of Cindy McCain has a test for fellowship on the issue of abortion it seems you would enforce at a Southern Baptist Church in which you were in good standing.
I cannot make you read Garry Wills on the Rove Era in his book American Christianity, but it makes a strong case politically Abortion has been used as a tool to play, to flim flam, to prostitute off the religious right for other purposes. That is evidenced by Karl Rove's remark early in the Bush administration, before 911, get me a "ffing" faith based bill through the Congress.--see Weisberg, Jacob.
Richard Land has been a part of that Whoredom for political power, and whatever part of the argument has not been made to date, the PFAW right wing watch linked above should complete.
I think the SBC should be much more transparent about the politics of abortion than it has been in the last 30 years.

Rove pressure on McCain camp and how McCain handles it is similar to the frustrations Richard Jackson felt when Richard Land's Pressler Camp pressured him in 1988

And the Council for National Policy.
It is my understanding Palin/McCain ticket will go to Colorado Springs to get Dobson's anointing next week.

And this confirmation from Dobson's boy In the Room as it were:

Requisite reading

Postby Stephen Fox » Mon Sep 08, 2008 2:07 pm

Best I remember you refuse or don't have time to read Garry Wills on the Rove Era.
You ended the conversation with Russ on abortion cause you couldn't bring yourself to oppose McCain's first choice for VP, Lieberman; nor could you oppose the Bush Women and all the speakers originally scheduled to speak the first night of the GOP.
If your vision of Jeffersonian Democracy is the John Birch Society and the Council for National Policy, we probably don't have a lot to talk about.
I have yet to see you respond to Bruce Gourley and his challenge on the John Dean book.
Hope things otherwise are well.
