Rick: Okay boys and girls - it's consistency time! See .
I noted with mild concern that Ariail plans to remain at the church. Granted, he states, "I dearly love the church and its people, and think I can be a help to the new pastor," said Ariail. "If it appears that I am giving him trouble, I will back off."
Um... I hope so. Or will it be too late by then?
Look - if I am going to give Adrian Rogers criticism for not backing off, then I had better express the same convictions (concerning former pastors remaining at their place of service) concerning Ariail (which is pronounced how by the way?).
When the pastor of Ithaca BC in Ithaca, NY retired he did indeed hang around. Although:
1) hey it was the only SBC church in the entire county, where the heck else would he and his wife go, eh?
2) he was frequently gone doing interim work and pulpit supply - he actually did a good job of letting the new pastor lead fer cryin' out loud.
