In 1991 he took the helm of the SCBC and began to implement a church growth vison he called "Empowering Kingdom Growth," EKG. I was skeptical of another big, top-down program but as it unfolded I found it to be a method by which the state resources were put at the churches disposal and in their service. Quite effective.
You recognize the "Kingdom" language in national SBC stuff, ineffective and top-down at this stage, IMO. Hemphill writes "Kingdom" articles and everyone uses the slogan but the idea, guys, is how the SBC can serve us, not what can we do to pump up the denomination.
Anyway, Driggers is a top notch servant and administrator with a servant's attitude. God bless him and those like him.
