The immediate and direct witnesses, those who were there, substantiate the content of the documents. One old guy they brought out to say he remembered Bush being there turned out not to have been there himself, the other one couldn't really remember one way or the other. On the other hand, Ben Barnes' statements are pretty devastating, and he's got the paperwork he used, which is one piece of the puzzle. Many of the people who served in the same places at the same time don't remember seeing much of Bush. That may be due to the fact that neither he nor his father were as well known back then, or it may be due to the fact that he wasn't there. I'd bet that the latter is true.
This is a president and campaign staff that will stop at nothing to divert attention from his record and win at all costs. The fact that this appears to be a repeat performance clues me in that if the documents are fradulent, they probably came from the Bush campaign. With the Swift Boat Veterans they first denied and campaign connection, then the next day the Bush campaign director who had been behind the scenes was caught and had to resign. Where there's smoke.....
