Foot stomping hymns

Postby Haruo » Sun Feb 10, 2019 12:44 am

I was just looking back at the programs I concocted as "Evergreen Hymn Sings" ca. 2009-2012, Number 4 (the third one I put on) was titled "FOOT-STOMPIN' HYMNS!"
EHS4 cover.jpg

Here is the songlist (the ones in << >> brackets were projected and spoken of, but not sung):
EHS4
Foot-Stompin' Hymns!

Opening Medley:
BRIGHT CANAAN
O who will come and go with me?
Our songs of praise shall fill the skies
WARRENTON
Come, thou fount of every blessing
Oh, to grace how great a debtor
BLESSED NAME
O for a thousand tongues to sing
I never shall forget that day
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

CLAYTON'S GRAND MARCH (organ)

Your turn

Pentecostal Dispensational Nostalgia Medley:
MANSION OVER THE HILLTOP
I'm satisfied with...
Don't think me poor or...
THE GREAT SPECKLED BIRD
<<If that ain't Country>>
What a beautiful thought I am thinking
Her wings shelter men of all nations
THE CHURCH IN THE WILDWOOD
There's a church in the valley
From the church in the valley
JUST A LITTLE TALK WITH JESUS
I once was lost in sin
I may have doubts and fears
WEBB
<<Stand up, stand up for Fremont>>
'Tis dawn, the lark is singing
The birds, they seem to send

Your turn

Technology Medley:
TURN YOUR RADIO ON
Well, come and listen in to a radio station
Don't you know that everybody has a radio receiver
<<WWW.JESUS>>
Last night I talked to Jesus on the World Wide Web>>
THE ROYAL TELEPHONE
Telephone to glory, O what joy divine!
Central's never "busy", always on the line
INTERNET TO GLORY
Internet to glory, oh what joy divine!
God is never busy, reach him in a flash
LIFE'S RAILWAY TO HEAVEN
Life is like a mountain railroad
As you roll across the trestle
<<Life is like a soaring aircraft>>

Your turn

Central Medley:
MY GOOD LORD'S DONE BEEN HERE
When I get up in heaven
Hold up the Baptist finger
BY THE RIVERS OF BABYLON (1978 Polygram)
LET YOUR LITTLE LIGHT SHINE
It may be me or it may be you
In times of joy or in times of woe
HALLOWED-A BE THY NAME
("The Calypso Our Father")
WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN
And when the sun refuse to shine
Oh, when we gather round the throne

Your turn

BLESSED ASSURANCE
EVERY MORNING IS EASTER MORNING

Serenity Service Medley
DO LORD
I've got a home in gloryland
I took Jesus as my Savior
JESUS WALKIN' ON THE WATER
(1984 Gano)
I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS
The world behind me
Though none go with me
The cross behind me

Beulah's Corn Medley
DWELLING IN BEULAH LAND
Meda dau doka ka vina...
Blessing grant, O God of nations...
Far away the noise of strife...
Let the stormy breezes blow...
BEULAH LAND
I've reached the land of corn and wine
My Savior comes and walks with me
THE CORN SONG (cento, Maunder)

Your turn

Closing Medley
MARCHING TO ZION
Come, we that love the Lord
Then let our songs abound
BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC
Mine eyes have seen the glory
I have read a fiery Gospel
He has sounded forth the trumpet
In the beauty of the lilies
I'LL FLY AWAY
Some bright morning when this life is o'er
When the shadows of this life have gone
Oh, how glad and happy when we meet
Just a few more weary days and then

I agree, not quite foot-stompin'. But fun. Robert, I'd be very interested in seeing what you would include in such a program if you decided to put one together.

I did not see the blood hymns

What can wash away my sins
There is a fountain filled with blood
Power in the blood
etc.

But a good list.

Yeah, the blood hymns could be a good sing all by themselves.

In 2012, after EHS6 (Watts, Wesley & the AGO), Verne and I were starting to work on one on Hymns of the Sea(s), but he died before we had done much work on it, and I've never managed to pull another one together.

Songs of the sea would have to include Let the Lower Lights be Burning

Love lifted me
Sail on!
God of the seas, thy thundering voice
Over the rolling sea
Thy way, O Lord, is in the sea
I stand by the lonely breakers

... what else?

Launch thy bark, mariner
Sacred Throne (Sacred Harp)
When marshaled on the nightly plain
In the waves and mighty waters
Calm to the Waves
Send the light!
The cleansing wave (border of Blood and Sea)
Etc.

There are thousands of possibilities.

I must think about it
"I'm the only sane {person} in here." Doyle Hargraves, Slingblade
"Midget, Broom; Helluva campaign". Political consultant, "Oh, Brother..."
