If you didn't intend it as prejorative I'll accept that. Given that a number of negative statements you've made about mainline and liberal Christians, it makes it easy to assume you are being negative even when you aren't.

"Chinmoku" to me was a way to say "This conversation is over" when I found myself caught in an argument that was taking up too much time and psychic energy when someone would come on the board with their mind already made up and wanted to force their opinion on me when I did not and could not agree.

Jim, you do come across as much more interested in outright condemnation than in showing how and why it is appropriate, which very frequently makes it appear that you are inappropriately condemnatory.

That is a bizarre and novel approach to Romans 1. It is a shame that you have neglected Romans 2. "Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgement on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the very same things."

"But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire." Mathew 5:22

I rather think the history of hermeneutics and Biblical interpretation makes a pretty good case for the position that you can indeed make something out of nothing, and that scholars, clerics, heretics and saints down through the ages have done so over and over. I am interested in hearing what Jim adduces as supporting his statement.
