Doesn't know the lingo

Any Christian who goes to church only 3 or 4 times/year knows that "2 Corinthians" is pronounced "Second Corinthians". It's odd that a politician who is courting evangelical Christians at Liberty University, would pronounce it TWO Corinthians. Even Presbyterians who go to church just twice a year know better.

I'm blown away by Trump's ignorance on something that simple. He can't even name his favorite passage of Scripture.

It may be a shock to some but lots of folks aren't familiar enough with the Bible to pronounce stuff....which is why it's a cardinal rule not to call on someone to read a passage unless you know they're open to doing that. Forty five years ago I pronounced Job as if it were what I left when I retired, a job. Of course, Trump should have people who know the lingo and brief him on it but I think he mainly wings it while speaking.

I think I recall some British or European preachers using "One Corinthians" or "One Kings" as their lingo.

My pastor makes me cringe sometimes with his pronunciation butchery of OT names.

I couldn't be sure how Haruo pronounces his name: HAR-u-o, Har-U-o, Hair-you-oh (might be Southern dialect).

I've now read confirmation that "one" and "two" is common UK pronunciation. His mom was Scottish, you know.

You have no argument with me on Trump and his strange, enthusiastic support from some (a lot, actually) evangelicals, Timothy. Russell Moore, head of the SBC Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, has spoken plainly of Trumps casino building and personal morality. Burke, SBC sem prof, follows along. Both, especially Moore, are enduring heavy criticism from some SBCers for pointing out issues with Trump.

The mark of the true Christian is not how you say it, but writing "II Corinthians" instead of "2 Corinthians". After all, that's how the Holy Ghost dictated it to Paul and James. "2", regardless of how you pronounce it, is Modernism!

The difference is that Bill actually has been an active Christian and active participant in the life of a church. Trump is pretending that he is an active Christian. It has nothing to do with who is the bigger sinner. All of us are sinners.

Our danger is not when Trump pretends piety or Bill Clinton fell from grace. Our real danger, IMHO, is when Christianity is prostituted to a political position whether or not it has anything to do with Jesus. Maybe this week is a good time to remember what Jesus was really about. The Revised Common Lectionary this week is our Lord's Nazareth Manifesto in Luke 4. How do any of the candidates stack up to that?

So Evangelicals are not really one of Trump's major constituencies. Look like they gravitate more toward Cruz, which is at least a little more consistent, and toward Carson. That's why he dragged Sarah "It's all about me!" Palin out for her endorsement. She has some pull among the extremist right in the GOP. I'm disappointed, though, since a Cruz-Palin ticket on the GOP side would have been cause for a huge celebration--in Clinton's campaign headquarters.
