No White Christmas for us this year

In fact they say we may beat the areas 1834 - 71 degree record for Christmas eve. At lest we should get to 70, maybe 72 tomorrow and Christmas day. Next week is supposed to the back to 30's and 50's. Normal for the first week of Jan is + 12 to 32. Temp right now is +50.

The prediction here is near 80 tomorrow.

After growing up in Arizona, and living for so long in Texas, white Christmases have been rare in my life. We had four in a row here in PA, and missed it last year by a day. But this year, with a forecast high of 65 tomorrow, and 58 on Christmas, we're going to miss our chance.

Ed: Well it is here! Over night we have had something like 2 inches of snow but now it is turning to sleet. Trudy is in NYC with our Daughter who lives in Missouri . They have rain as anyone watching the Today show will know. We are expecting high 30s this afternoon.

It had been 231 days since we had measurable snow not quite a new record the old record 238 days was in1964.

A fair amount of snow fell here on Sunday, but none of it stuck. The ground was wet, the snow was mixed with rain, and the thermometer was above freezing.

On Christmas we went to Mrs. H's brother's for dinner. They live a bit more than twice our elevation -- we're at about 400 ft. above sea level -- and they had actually had some snow that stuck a couple days earlier, and had made a snowman, maybe 3 feet tall, they said. But by Christmas evening the snowman was in a sad state of decomposition. (See photo)

We had a white Christmas here in Iowa. I drove out of snow to be in the St. Louis area for several days of nothing but rain. Those poor folks need to start ark building! Then we went to KC for a few days with my in-laws and are now back in Sioux City where there are about 6-8" of snow on the ground.

My first order of business on returning home was firing up the snow blower.

My wife grew up in St. Louis, and we are quite concerned about friends and relatives there. At this point, I guess they'd rather have had the snow. My wife says she's seen the water in the Mississippi up over the riverfront, and on the steps to the Arch just twice before. From the pictures, it looks like it's there today.
