Mark 14:3

Mark 14:3 is included in the SS lesson I am teaching this weekend. I have looked in about a dozen translations and each says "a woman" (no name). The William F. Beck translation (one of my favorites -- so easy to understand) also says "a woman". However, Beck tends to put titles on each paragraph, and on this passage it says "Mary Anoints Jesus". Is it a commonly held belief that "Mary" is the person in this story? Which Mary, was Beck referring to, I wonder? Can anyone shed light on this?

The lesson writer for this series of lessons --- Michael L. Ruffin, FBC, Fitzgerald, GA --- says "In Matthew's story, which is most like Mark's, the woman is also anonymous. ....We know absolutely nothing about her other than what she did in breaking open the alabaster vase and pouring its contents..."

The way John Mark tells the story -- Mark 14:3 -- it happened at Simon's house, 2 days before Passover (Wednesday of Holy Week), and "a woman" anointed his head.
The way Matthew tells it -- Matt 26:7 -- It happened at Simon's house, "a woman" anointed his head.
The way Luke tells it -- Luke 7: 36-50 -- It happened at Simon's house, "a woman...a sinner" anointed his feet.
The way John tells it, --- John 12: 1-11 --- It happened at Lazarus' house, 6 days before Passover, "Mary" [sister of Lazarus], anointed his feet.

Is this the same event with different recollections? Or is this two different events?
